## PreCalc Summer Homework

Although strictly not required this summer assignment will prepare you for the first few weeks of the course and make things go a lot more smoothly for you. The focus is refreshing and staying sharp on your algebra skills.

### 1) Register for Khan Academy

This year we'll be making heavy use of Khan Academy both as a class resource for extra instruction outside of the classroom and as place to practice homework problems in addition to problems from the book. You'll need to register for my class on KA so I can track and grade your progress.  You can register for my course on Khan Academy by following the instructions attached to the bottom of this page. If you have any problems or questions, feel free to email me at my school email address.

### 2) Get started on Chapter 1 Early!

I've posted the reading and assignments for chapter 1 so you can get a head start. Download the chapter 1 units and then do the problems and worksheets as you see fit. You don't have to do all of them, just as many as you feel you need to master the content. This work will not be turned-in nor graded, but is available for you to review and practice your skills. We will cover chapter 1 very quickly as it is just an algebra review, but you have this opportunity to review the material and assignments early, practice the skills, and prepare for the quizzes. This material must be mastered in the first two weeks of the school year. Don't under-estimate it! It can take several weeks of practice to master - a few afternoons in late August will not be sufficient. Your definition of mastery may be less stringent than my definition. My definition is the one that counts.

### If you find material in task (2) above challenging, then you should consider completing the Algebra 1 Mission on Khan Academy. Khan Academy groups mathematical content in "missions". Each mission groups together individual skills related to that mission (e.g. "can factor quadratic polynomials"). Some of the skills may be easy for you, which is a good sign, but I'm guessing there are some weak areas for many of of you. By working through the exercises you will find those weak areas and improve them over the summer. Khan Academy provides a warm-up self-evaluation to help you identify where to start and which skills to work on.There will be an algebra test on the first day of school. Be ready.
