AP Calculus AB Suggested Summer Work

AP Calc AB is a fast-paced, rigorous course designed to teach you calculus and to prepare you for the AP test in May. AP courses require dedication and focus on the part of the student - you are expected to take responsibility for your learning. I will provide guidance, instruction, resources, and support, but if you're going to learn the material and be ready for the test you must be prepared to study on your own time and work hard.

Please register for my AP Calculus Khan Academy class using the instructions below:

1. Sign up at http://khanacademy.org (or log in if you already have an account). 

2. Visit khanacademy.org/coaches (the “Coaches” tab in your profile). 

3. In the “Join a Class” field, enter the class code BVC4GESJ for AP Calculus AB

4. Click Home to start

You should see AP Calculus AB as a class. I have created assignments for you to complete this summer. If you don't see any assignments right away, wait a day or two, as I need to log in every day to apply the assignments to new students (Khan Academy design flaw). Once you see assignments you can start doing them.

1. The assignments are Unit Tests on basic algebra and pre-calculus. The goal is for you to review and stay sharp on what you've already learned so you are ready on day one. 
2. When you click on an assignment it will take you to the unit test. I recommend you scroll to the very top of the unit and take quiz 1, which will inform you on what you need to study. 
3. Download and refer to The Yellow Book (also linked below) to help review content before you take the units tests.
4. Alternatively you can review the unit topics on your own as you see fit.

When you feel comfortable with the unit content you can take the Unit Test at the bottom. After taking the test, you can move on to the next assignment.

You need to learn and develop the discipline to evaluate your own understanding of a topic and to study it on your own without detailed direction from me. The goal is for you to learn how to study on your own using printed and online resources as this will be an important skill to develop before you start AP Calculus AB.

Memorize the values of sine, cosine, and tangent for the reference angles 0, pi/6, pi/4, pi/3, and pi/2. 

Know how to apply these reference angles to find sine, cosine, and tangent values in quadrants I-IV in the coordinate plane.
