Chap4-6 Practice Exam Available

posted Jan 12, 2019, 4:24 PM by Nikhil Joshi   [ updated Jan 12, 2019, 4:25 PM ]

Work on the practice exam for 55 minutes under standard test-taking conditions if at all possible. No calculator. You are welcome to collaborate on solutions AFTER you have taken the test.  The goal is for you to assess your readiness and plan your study session accordingly for the actual test. We will go over solutions on Monday.

Winter Break Assignment

posted Dec 23, 2018, 10:20 AM by Nikhil Joshi

1. Read textbook units 6.1-6.4, pages 383-420.
2. Log into Khan Academy and review assigned items.

Are these strictly required? No, but I need you to make a judgement call. I appreciate how hard you have worked for me and you have earned a restful break. I need you to return on the 7th re-energized, but I also need you sharp. Try reading the textbook and taking notes. If you don't understand something turn to Khan. Use a combination. Use the book when you don't have internet. Use khan academy when you do. Flying somewhere? Use the the plane ride to review the textbook or your notes, or do the worksheets. Plan your study time for the break.

The key is to do some math everyday so you don't lose ground. Refresh yourself on the algebra of exponentials and logarithms and learn the calculus of exponentials and logarithms.  Twenty to thirty productive minutes a day is all I ask.

Do get some rest, do enjoy your break, and have a happy new year!

Your reflection for your pre-test is due on Friday 10/8. You will submit the reflection using Trello.

In order to submit your test reflection do the following right away:

  1. Create a Trello account if you don't already have one. Please use my recommendation link to sign up for Trello, as it will give me some extra features if enough students sign up.
  2. After creating your account join my Classes and Clubs Team
  3. You should then see the boards associated with my classes. Add yourself to the calculus board.

The reflection exercise is attached below and includes the procedure for turning in the reflection via Trello.

Calc Unit One Pagers

posted Sep 27, 2018, 8:09 AM by Nikhil Joshi   [ updated Sep 27, 2018, 8:09 AM ]

To clarify - my suggestion for doing one-pagers in AP Calc is merely that - a suggestion, and not required in any way for a points or a grade.

I think it's worth your time to pick one or more units from chapter 1, read it closely and generate your one pager as a way to focus on the content. Then use the one-pager to study. If it helps, keep doing it and use it as learning tool. If it doesn't help, find something else that will help you learn, and especially, help you engage and closely read the textbook.

I think doing this on a regular basis to build a library which you can use to study for the test at the end of the year would be valuable. In the end, it's up to you to decide if this will be a productive way for you to learn and study.

The sample document I showed in class is attached below.

Summer HW Assignment Update

posted Aug 6, 2018, 8:28 AM by Nikhil Joshi

Hi Everyone,

If you're a new student who is just now logging in for the summer assignment, you may not see it for at least a week. Because of the way Khan Academy works, I have to log in and assign the exercises to students who have newly joined the class. I will be out of town this week with spotty internet access until Sunday. So keep checking every day in case I managed to log in and update the assignments.
